The procedure to configure a communication printer service is as follows:

  1. Navigate to Quick Menu > Communication Engine > Configuration > Communication Configuration. The Communication Configuration window is displayed.
  2. Click on Printer (if not already selected). A list of existing printers is displayed, categorised by company.
  3. Click on New Printer.
  4. Using the Companies drop-down field, multi-select all companies for which this printer service is relevant.
  5. Enter the Printer Name into the field provided i.e. the name by which it is most commonly known 1.
  6. Enter the Printer Model into the field provided, typically the same as the printer driver name.
  7. Enter the Printer URL into the field provided i.e. the network location, in the format \\network-resource-folder\printer-share-name.
  8. Enter the Printer IP Address into the field provided.
  9. Enter the Printer Location into the field provided i.e. for identification purposes 1.
  10. Click on Save. The new printer is displayed in the alphabetical list, underneath each associated company 2.

Note

1 This is a free text field, used to record information about the printer to uniquely identify it.

2 To amend the details of an existing printer, expand the company heading, select an associated printer (or type its name into the Search Printer field) and repeat steps 4 through 10. To remove an existing printer, select the printer in the same way and click on Remove Printer (system validation rules ensure that any associated queues must first be redirected to an alternative printer service). To clone an existing printer (i.e. to create a similar copy), select the printer and click on Clone.
