The procedure to configure a communication SMS service is as follows:
- Navigate to Quick Menu > Communication Engine > Configuration > Communication Configuration. The Communication Configuration window is displayed.
- Click on SMS. A list of existing SMS service providers is displayed, categorised by company.
- Click on New Provider. All fields are activated ready for data entry

- Using the Companies drop-down field, multi-select all companies for which this SMS service is relevant.
- Enter the Name of the SMS provider into the field provided i.e. the name by which the provider is most commonly known.
- Enter the User name and corresponding Password credentials to authenticate each SMS transmission with the provider. For security purposes the password is hidden from view.
- Enter the SMS from number into the field provided i.e. the mobile identification number included with each SMS communication.
- Enter the URL to response message handler address into the field provided i.e. the service available to collate, redistribute and dispatch automatic acknowledgements to all SMS responses.
- Enter the Account reference number for the web service, used to identify the source of each SMS transmission.
- Enter the Number of permitted automatic attempts for SMS transmissions. The Up and Down arrows are available to increment or decrement this value.
- Enter the Maximum number of characters permitted within each SMS into the field provided. The Up and Down arrows are available to increment or decrement this value.
- Enter the Minimum delay required (in minutes) between automatic transmission attempts initiated from the communication queue. The Up and Down arrows are available to increment or decrement this value.
- Click on Save. The new SMS service is displayed in the alphabetical list, underneath each associated company

Note
1 The SMS provider field is automatically populated with the name of the gateway service configured as part of the initial system deployment.
2 To amend the details of an existing SMS service, expand the company heading, select an associated provider (or type its name into the Search Provider field) and repeat steps 4 through 13. To remove an existing SMS service, select the provider in the same way and click on Remove Provider (system validation rules ensure that any associated queues must first be redirected to an alternative provider). To clone an existing SMS service (i.e. to create a similar copy), select the SMS service and click on Clone.
