Whilst the top level - or root - asset is defined for a new hierarchy at the point of initial creation, it is possible to assign an alternative at any future point, even when a comprehensive asset structure is already in place.
The procedure to assign an alternative root asset to a hierarchy is as follows:
- Navigate to Quick Menu > Assets > Configuration > Asset Hierarchies. The Asset Hierarchy Details window is displayed.
- Select an asset hierarchy from the alphabetical list or type its name into the Search Asset Hierarchy field. By default the list is filtered to show Current asset hierarchies. An alternative filter can be applied using the Select view drop-down field: Expired, Future or All combinations
1.
- Click on New Root Asset. The Search Address window is displayed.
- Enter sufficient address details into the search fields provided and click on Search. The Search Address window is displayed, returning all possible matches.
- Double-click on the row containing the exact record match or use Refine Search to enter alternative criteria. The address appears in the Root asset field i.e. the new top level asset in the new hierarchy.
- Amend the Effective from date for this asset hierarchy, as required i.e. the date on which the change of root asset came into effect
2.
- Amend the Effective to date for this asset hierarchy, as required i.e. to specify the valid duration of the change; a blank field means the link to the new root asset will be continually valid.
- Click on Save
3.
Note
1 The Search Asset Hierarchy field will match against any element of the hierarchy name.
2 The Effective from date defaults to the current system date and cannot be left blank.
3 Where the root asset is revised, the original record can be reused elsewhere within the hierarchy.
