Scheduled events management overview

A scheduled event or task is one that is set to run automatically at a predetermined time without further intervention by the end user. A schedule can be defined as a once only event or can be set to run at regular intervals, the frequency of which can be closely controlled e.g. times in the day, days of the week, weekdays only, month end, etc. The creation of scheduled tasks ensures that routine functions can be managed in the background without impacting on attended activities. Once configured, scheduled tasks reduce much of the administrative burden of conducting repeat activities, specifically:

System users can also receive an automatic notification of any failures encountered during a scheduled event, thus ensuring that errors are trapped easily. A scheduled event is not limited to a single task; invariably multiple tasks will form part of an event, many with inter-dependencies that can all be defined to meet the requirements of a policy or procedure, and in the desired order of execution.

There are occasions when an end user will need to execute a scheduled event outside of the prescribed frequency, and this too is permitted, without upsetting the balance of future slots. To uphold full audit integrity, the system maintains comprehensive historical records of all scheduled events, capturing the outcome, any detected errors and instances where manual user intervention has occurred, including a date and time stamp.
