The procedure to define the category structure of a materials catalogue is as follows:
- Navigate to Quick Menu > Materials > Configuration > Internal Part Catalogue. The Internal Part Catalogue window is displayed.
- Select a materials catalogue from the alphabetical list or type its name into the Search Categories field. By default the list is filtered to show Current catalogues and their associated categories. An alternative filter can be applied using the Select view drop-down field: Expired, Future or All combinations
1.
- Click on Add Sub Category. The focus of the form is switched to Catalogue - Category Details and all fields are activated ready for data entry.
- Enter the top level Category name into the field provided
2.
- Choose an Effective from date for this category heading i.e. the date on which it came into effect for the materials catalogue
3.
- Choose an Effective to date if the category's inclusion within the materials catalogue is to be reviewed on a specific date or to capture a change of circumstances; a blank field means it will be continually valid.
- Click on Save. The new category heading appears underneath the relevant materials catalogue in a hierarchical structure.
- To insert further top level categories within the same hierarchical structure, select the relevant materials catalogue from the alphabetical list afresh and repeat steps 3 through 7.
- Additionally, to extend the hierarchical structure within a materials catalogue, click on the nested expansion level pointer icons (
) to reveal the desired node entry point and repeat steps 3 through 7, using the Category name field to capture the specific sub category label
4.
Note
1 The Search Categories field will match against any element of the catalogue title or associated sub headings.
2 For each individual materials catalogue, system validation rules ensure that the proposed category name is unique for the effective period.
3 The Effective from date defaults to the current system date and cannot be left blank.
4 By inserting new categories at different hierarchical node levels, a comprehensive materials catalogue can be constructed, with the desired classification detail aligned to the stored parts.
