System preferences overview

Parent Previous Next

One of the key design principles of Civica Cx Housing is to provide end users with the greatest flexibility in customising all aspects of functionality, therefore optimising operational effectiveness and also harmonising procedures in line with best practice. Aligning the system to most closely match local methods of working is achieved through a comprehensive set of preferences and parameter options, as well as the framework in which to control the stamping of each individual database record with a unique identifier (reference number).

By way of introduction, a system preference is most commonly defined as a field with three possible data types: a single value entry, a prescribed lookup value or a Boolean (True or False) representation. These values are set by the end user to configure functionality within Civica Cx Housing to meet their specific needs. All system preferences are available via the Quick Menu, and maintained using data entry screens that are consistent both in terms of appearance and operation. A reference number is simply a discrete and customised alphanumeric code that remains with each new record or transactional posting throughout its lifetime, and is used for tracking purposes and to uphold data integrity. A summary of core system attributes that can be defined by the end user is included in the table below.

System Parameters

All preferences are contained within a single summary table and match to one of the following data formats: a numeric value (e.g. Maximum no of concurrent logins), a free text entry (e.g. Online Help URL), a Boolean value (e.g. Allow multiple appointments per order), a prescribed lookup value (e.g. Default language).

Reference Numbers

Throughout Civica Cx Housing, unique system-generated reference numbers are allocated to works orders, inspections, repair requests, etc. The syntax of these reference numbers can be controlled by the end user in a variety of ways: the number of characters, the starting point, the inclusion of any prefix and/or suffix, as well as the inclusion of a check digit to verify the integrity of each value. Different syntax conventions can also be maintained for individual companies. The processes by which these custom reference numbers are managed and generated, together with the system validation rules defined to ensure their unique identity, provide a future-proof solution for even the largest data sets.

Separate help articles have been created for each key aspect of system preferences, including:
