The procedure to update the characteristics of an asset is as follows:
- Using the global search facility, type in the first few characters of the asset address

- Double-click on the row containing the exact record match. Where the expected record is not listed, a more advanced search can be conducted using the spy-glass icon (
).
- Click on Asset Details. The Asset Details window is displayed for the current asset.
- Click on Characteristics. The Characteristics tab is activated.
- Click on New Characteristic. The Characteristic window is displayed.
- Using the Characteristic type drop-down field, select a parameter option that is appropriate for the asset (e.g. Number of bedrooms, Type of heating, etc.).
- Use the Value field to enter a corresponding characteristic value in the format governed by the data type and associated criteria. For numeric responses, the Up and Down arrows are available to increment or decrement the value, as required.
- Choose an Effective from date for this record i.e. the date on which the characteristic came into effect 2.
- Choose an Effective to date if the characteristic needs to be reviewed on a specific date or to capture a change of circumstances; a blank field means the details will never expire.
- Click on Save. The new characteristic is added to the summary list 3.
Note
1 The search facility will return all possible matches for any corresponding address field once the Number of characters before an automatic search commences system preference is reached.
2 The Effective from date defaults to the current system date and cannot be left blank.
3 There is no limit to the number of characteristics that can be linked to an asset.
