The procedure to assign custom field styles within a generic form template is as follows:
- Prerequisite procedural steps are covered separately in the topics To add a standardised entry field to a generic form template. and To add a system data field to a generic form template. Refer to these before proceeding to step 2.
- Identify the field element to be ascribed a custom style and click on the formatting icon (
). The Formatting window is displayed, ready to apply a custom style to the chosen field element.
- Where an alternative colour scheme is required for the field element, click separately on the Border colour and Background colour objects. The Colour selector window is displayed, ready to choose the preferred palette.
- To emphasise the importance of the field element, choose an alternative Border style (e.g. Solid, Dashed, Dotted, Double, etc.) and Border width (in pixels).
- To adjust the appearance of all displayed text associated with the field element, choose an alternative Font (e.g. Arial, Courier, Mono Space, etc.), Font Size (in points) and Font Colour; additional emphasis can be achieved using the Bold, Italic and Underline tick box attributes.
- Alternatively, where a custom style will be inherited from an external Cascading Style Sheet (CSS), activate the Custom CSS class tick box provided; the relevant class name must also be specified in the adjacent box.
- Click on Confirm. All defined style choices are assigned to the field element.
- Repeat steps 2 through 7 to assign custom styles to the remaining field elements on the generic form template

- Click on Save.

1 Where a Repeating field element is employed, an independent custom style can be applied to the 'array' label.
